On our way to the marble Arch caves we have often passed the sign post pointing towards Crom Estate and not paid much attention to it. Until one day we decided to take the turn and drive toward it for a change. a boy are we glad we did.
This place is Huge!!! the estate itself is so vast in size with all you could wish for on a day out.

The journey begins……
You start your walk along the road from the visitor centre before you hit the real path that leads you out into the scenery. You open out onto a massive green expanse. here you will find the old castle perched at the waters edge and you can only begin to wonder what it was like back in the days when it was operational. The views from the old castle are stunning out onto the water, with lots of islands dotted around to look at.

You then leave the island and walk along the waters edge, trying to stay on the path as you will constantly be looking at the view to your left. The path leads all the way around the huge green field at the back of the old castle. the walk itself is not that hard as it is all mainly flat terrain throughout the whole estate. There are a few handily positioned seats, not because you will be tired, but just so you can sit and admire the views out across the water. Eventually the path leaves the open and starts to head into some of the woodland that there is around the estate. Its from here that the trees are hiding something pretty special… The Boathouse & bridge.

The Bridge across the water
The Boathouse
The Boathouse
Island Hopping…
As you clear the trees you come across the Boathouse, one of the most picturesque place i have ever seen. perched on the river and over looking the bridge across to one of the islands. It is as peaceful a place that you will ever find. Next stop on the trail is crossing the bridge onto the island. This part of the estate has an educational centre and a large walled garden which deserves to be restored to its former glory. The trail follows all the way around the island back to the bridge.
As you cross the bridge you catch a glimpse of the Summer tea house, overlooking the river, nestled within the trees. A little get away from the main estate house – these old timers knew how to live.

The rest of the trail brings you past the main estate home and through the deer fields. large paddocks with large single trees dotted around the landscape give you a feel of a stately home. Following this path leads all the way back to carpark through wooded areas and wide open ground giving you great views out across the estate.
Crom definitely is well worth a visit. It has a small play park for the little ones and a small coffee shop for the refreshments after a great walk around the estate. there is also glamping pods built into what looked like an old boathouse down by the river.
Put it on your list!!!!
