Castle Coole

DSC00063Just outside Enniskillen, coming from the Killyhevlin side, on the right hand side of the road we spotted the brown sign for Castle Coole, and thought to ourselves … lets go and have a look. It was a lovely sunny day and after sitting in the car for 45 mins we wanted to stretch our legs.

After entering via the rather large and regal gates, we drove up to were we had to pay. They pointed us in the direction of the car park and off we went. The driveway to this place is huge!!!! On and on it went, driving along the tree lined avenue, the large stately home then appeared on the hillside in the distance. Through the trees you get a glimpse of the sheer size of the grounds and house. We drive on further still through the grounds and eventually come to the car park, set at the side of a rather grand looking small courtyard just off from the house.

After a quick bite to eat we set off, following one of the well sign posted walks. As we exited out through the courtyard and walked through the trees the main house looms large into view. On this sunny day the white stone made the house look grander in some way. We had planned a route on the map which would take in all the various walks available and would take us around all the grounds.

We started off on the Beech walk, which gave us some great views of the house. The views off the house all along the walks are stunning as the green fields sweep down from the house into the tree lines.

The rolling green fields are only interrupted by the large trees that dot the landscape, some more interesting than others, at the far end of the lake we found one that looked like it was a piece of sculpture.

The walk around the lake is also very peaceful and offers more great views of the main house. The path then leads back to the car parks. All in all this was a really enjoyable place to visit. There was a tour of the house as well, but as it was such a good day, we stayed out in the fresh air.
