I’ve been going to this place for as long as I can remember and I still love what it has to offer. Ponds, rivers, woodland walks, old estate house and best of all the herd of deer which graze the local grounds.
You really do get it all on a visit to Parkanaur Forest Park.
We start today with an amble along the lovely river walk, which starts straight out of the carpark. Over a little stone bridge and along the edge of the lake. The path meanders through the high trees and alongside the small stream which snakes its ways through the forest. Every turn reveals another splendid view of the water, trees and flowers along the paths edge. You walk for no more than 0.5 miles until you arrive at the bridge, sadly the old stone walkway that had crossed the river is now closed but still available to look upon, we cross the bridge and start to make our way down the opposite back towards the deer enclosure and the main house of Parkanaur.
The house on the hill appears into view and is very picturesque with the tall trees, the grassy paddock and the deer running around in front of it. You are allowed to walk into the deer enclosure, don’t forget to shut the gate!!! A group of about 30 deer run wild within and are a majestic site. Especially the adult males with their antlers.

The walk through the paddock leads you up to the main house of Parkanaur. (only open for functions and special occasions). You are free to wander the grounds and look around all the old courtyards, nooks and crannies that are well hid away.
There are walks here for all levels of all distances and clearly sign posted and mapped out from the car park. I really must tray a few more the next time I go as I am always left satisfied doing the walk I have described because of the sights and the sounds.

Another good thing about Parkanaur and it really is a credit is IT’S FREE!!!! Sure you couldn’t beat that! Definitely well worth a visit.
